International Admissions Process


How to Apply for Admission

Fort Hays Tech | Northwest gladly welcomes students of all nationalities interested in pursing a technical education. Below we have provided a step-by-step process for what you need in order to gain admission to Fort Hays Tech | Northwest.

Documents Required for Acceptance (International Students)

All documents must be in PDF form and sent directly to International@fhnw.edu
To finalize your admission, we must have the following documents on file:

  • Completed International Student Application
  • Official Original Transcript and Graduation Certificate
    • Official Original Transcript and Graduation Certificate (please see the “International Guide” at https://www.fhnw.edu/students/international-students)
    • Documents not issued in English must be submitted with the original version and an official English translation.
    • Students who submit documents to apply prior to graduation may receive a conditional acceptance letter; however, an I-20 will not be issued until the final official transcript and graduation certificate have been received.
  • English Proficiency for Admission
    • Students whose country’s official language is not English must document their English proficiency in one of the following ways. If scores are above these thresholds, students will be fully admitted.
    • TOEFL iBT: minimum 32+ (traditional 0–120 scale) or 2.0+ (new 1–6 iBT scale)
    • Duolingo: minimum 65+
    • IELTS: minimum 4.5+
    • Scores must not be less than 18 months old at the time of enrollment
    • Applicants whose scores do not meet the listed minimums are not eligible for admission.
  •  
  • Affidavit of Sponsorship
    • The affidavit document must be dated within 6 months of program start date.
    • The affidavit will be emailed directly to you to complete and return.
    • The affidavit must be notarized and stamped by a bank official.
  • Provide proof of financial support
    • Submit a certified bank statement dated within six months of the start of class in the dollar amount stated on your affidavit. The statement must be in English. The amount listed is the estimated one-year cost of tuition, textbooks, tools, and living expenses minus any financial support you may be receiving from the college.
  • Copy of Passport
    • Students must provide a copy of current passport. This will be used to verify personal information listed on the application.
  • Other Requirements
    • SEVIS Fee
    • The U.S. Government requires the payment of a non-refundable $350 SEVIS fee for all international students before issuing a visa.
    • Electronically- completing Form I-901 (http://www.fmjfee.com/)
  • Visa interview
    • It is the student’s responsibility to schedule a visa appointment at the local US
    • Consulate or Embassy after paying the SEVIS fee. The receipt Form I-797 is used to schedule the interview. Students should bring the following to the interview:
    • Signed I-20 from Fort Hays Tech | Northwest
    • Passport
    • Fort Hays Tech | Northwest acceptance letter
    • Form I-797 SEVIS fee receipt
    • Completed visa application
    • Financial support documents
  • Upon arrival at Fort Hays Tech | Northwest, additional items to be completed:
    • ACCUPLACER Exam
    • Negative TB (Tuberculosis) Skin Test
    • Health Insurance (recommended)
