Electrical Technology is a program that provides instruction to develop basic electrician skills, technical knowledge and related occupational information to prepare you for initial employment in the electrical trade. The class will begin with the basic fundamentals of electricity and progress through all types of residential, commercial, and industrial wiring, including the most advanced solid state motor controls. Throughout the program, instruction will include class work, shop projects, and on-the-job service work.

The actual hands-on training is very essential because it allows you to learn by gaining job experience combined with the related technical information. Applied training will include off-campus service calls in motor control repairs, industrial maintenance and new or existing commercial/residential wiring. You also become familiar with various electrical systems through on-campus electrical maintenance.

New Program Developments

GreenApple Labs

In 2019, we launched a new partnership with the National Coalition of Certification Centers (NC3) and Greenlee to found one of the top GreenApple Labs by Greenlee in the country! This brings industry-leading equipment into an entirely new lab space and industry-recognized credentials provided by Greenlee and NC3. This means as a graduate of Fort Hays Tech | Northwest, you will head into the workforce with not only your degree or certificate but also with training and certifications provided by an industry-leading partner - Greenlee.

The Fort Hays Tech | Northwest Electrical Technology program is in alignment with the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES) CIP code 46.0302: Electrician. A program that prepares individuals to apply technical knowledge and skills to install, operate, maintain, and repair electric apparatus and systems such as residential, commercial, and industrial electric-power wiring; and DC and AC motors, controls, and electrical distribution panels. Includes instruction in the principles of electronics and electrical systems, wiring, power transmission, safety, industrial and household appliances, job estimation, electrical testing and inspection, and applicable codes and standards.
