  • Utilities Superintendent - Village of Stratton, NE - Posted 6.2.25

    The Village of Stratton (population 310) is seeking a full-time Utilities Superintendent. Located in southwest Nebraska, 30 minutes west of McCook along Highway 34 and just 10 miles from Swanson Reservoir, Stratton is a small, supportive community offering a great quality of life.

    This position oversees the day-to-day operations of the village’s utility systems, with responsibilities including:

    • Operation and maintenance of the municipal water and sewer systems

    • Maintenance of electrical service infrastructure

    • Street maintenance and general public works tasks

    • Other duties as assigned

    Applicants must possess or be able to obtain a Grade IV Water Operator License through the State of Nebraska. The Village will provide and pay for all necessary training and certification.

    Purpose of Job
    o This position is responsible for maintaining plant machinery and equipment
    o Participating in Predictive/Preventative Maintenance programs
    o Perform various preventive maintenance checks and repairs

    Qualifications

    Organizational Relationships

     Duties and Responsibilities
    o Ensure a safe, healthy work environment by following all safety, health, and environmental regulations including LOTO, Confined Space Entry, and Hot Work permits.
    o Maintain all current preventive maintenance programs
    o Required to participate in on call rotation with other maintenance staff.
    o Maintaining current and in-depth knowledge of all safety & environmental policies and standards related to Process Safety Management (PSM)
    o Safety meeting attendance and pro-active incident reporting/identification is expected of all on-site personnel.
    o Housekeeping as related, but not limited to the cleanliness and orderly organization of maintenance shop, office and parts storage facilities
    o Demonstrate a personal commitment to the Company values; promote an environment that appreciates diversity and treats all people with respect, prohibiting discrimination and harassment of any kind.
    o Ensures work orders that are assigned to you are processed and completed in an efficient and timely manner.
    o Performs routine inspections of plant equipment
    o Estimates materials, parts, tools and equipment needed for work assignments
    o Other duties as assigned by Maintenance Manager, Maintenance Supervisor or Plant Manager not listed herein, but which need to be accomplished to maintain safe and timely day-to-day operations within the plant.

    Physical requirements
    o Ability to climb down into boot pits and tunnels.
    o Working on floors and walkways as high as 130 feet.
    o Lifting 50 pounds repeatedly.
    o Ability to climb steps and ladders ranging from 10 to 130 feet.
    o Ability to enter areas or confined spaces.
    o Walk, climb, bend and kneel easily. Lift, grip, grasp, push and pull various tools and equipment of 50lb or more.
    o Wear and appropriately use all required personal protective equipment (safety glasses, steel toe shoes, hearing protection, respirators, fall protection, hard hats, etc.)

    Working Conditions
    o Work is performed both indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions and temperatures.
    o Frequent exposure to noise, heights, moving equipment and mechanical parts, electricity, extremely hot and cold equipment and products, flammable materials, dust, dirt and grease.

    o Work performed is expected to meet or exceed guidelines for safety, quality, accuracy, timeliness and thoroughness.
